3M 8516 Welding Respirator Details
The 3M 8516 is an economical disposable respirator designed for the aluminum industry, making it suitable for most hot and humid conditions in which nuisance levels of acid gasses such as chlorine, hydrogen fluoride, and/or sulfur dioxide are present. The 8516 N95 provides at least 95% filtration efficiency against non-oil based particulate.
The 3M 8516 respirator features 3M's Cool Flow™ Valve which vents exhaled heat away, along with 3M's advanced electrostatic microfiber filter media that provides improved breathability. The result is a mask that keeps workers cool and allows them to breathe easily. This is ideal for situations in which heat and humidity are present.
For enhanced comfort, 3M 8516 respirators have M-noseclips, which allow workers to customize their fit for better face sealing and more effective respiratory safety. The noseclips also prevent glasses or other protective eyewear from fogging. The inner materials of the mask are soft and gentle on the skin. And the headband straps are braided and connected via dual point attachments for a comfortable, secure fit.
The 3M 8516 is recommended for welding, metal pouring, torch cutting, soldering, and brazing. Also suitable for metal repair, foundry operations, pharmaceutical manufacturing, agricultural production, mineral processing, textile operations, ariborne biological particles, petrochemical manufacturing, dry chemical handling, bagging, sweeping, sanding, grinding, and other dusty applications. Note: not for use with oil based particulate.

About Efficiency
Filter efficiency shows how much filter leakage can be accepted. Higher efficiency means less leakage.
95%, 99%, and 99.97% are the most common filter efficiency ratings.
Used in particulate environments free of oil aerosols. N-series filters cannot be used if oil particles are present.
Used for oil and non-oil particles with time use limitations specified by NIOSH. If oil particles (e.g., lubricants, cutting fluids, glycerine) are present, use an R- or P-series filter.
Used for oil and non-oil particples with time use limitations specified by manufacturer. If oil particles are present and the filter is to be used for more than one work shift, use only a P-series filter.
